Paul di Resta says he will still take great encouragement from his British Grand Prix even though his race went awry after a superb qualifying result. The Scot had started sixth for Force India and was running comfortably in seventh when he had a disastrous pitstop following some miscommunication - the team having expected his team-mate Adrian Sutil, who had just reported a puncture, to arrive first. That delay and a later stop for a new front wing after tangling with Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi left di Resta only 15th at the flag

The Swiss Racing Team has cancelled its planned return to the GT1 World Championship at Paul Ricard this weekend, and is not certain to return to the series at all. The outfit, which switched from Ford to Lamborghini machinery last winter, suffered significant damage to both its Murcielagos on the opening lap of the Sachsenring race in May and has missed the last two races at Silverstone and Navarra as a result. Now, team principal Othmar Welti says that as a result of 'multiple problems' that have occurred since then, the team has been withdrawn for the time being.

Ferrari says it will not get carried away with dreaming it is back in World Championship contention, despite Fernando Alonso's British Grand Prix victory. The Spaniard delivered Ferrari's first win of 2011 in mixed conditions at Silverstone where, after capitalising on Red Bull's mistakes in the pits, he drove away at the head of the pack. Yet although a raft of updates - including a new rear wing, diffuser and brake ducts - delivered a tangible step forward in pace, team principal Stefano Domenicali wants to wait a few more events to see if his team now has the genuine form to challenge Red Bull regularly for victory

Erik Estrada Carmageddon PSA - Click above to watch the videos after the jump

Residents of the metropolitan Los Angeles area have been bracing for what's been dubbed Carmageddon. No, not the video game from the late '90s, but the scheduled closure of Interstate 405 over the course of this weekend.

The temporary shutdown of the hugely busy 10-mile stretch of highway is being effected so that it can be widened to ease traffic congestion, including the demolition and reconstruction of the Mulholland Bridge and the addition of a carpool lane.

Such a big move obviously needs to be brought to public attention, and to that end, Caltrans - the California Department of Transportation - brought in no less suitable a celebrity than Erik Estrada, best known for his role as California Highway Patrol officer Frank Poncharello on the TV show CHiPs. Estrada reportedly did the Public Service Announcements for free in English and Spanish, both of which you can view after the jump (we snuck in a video of the CHiPs intro sequence for you nostalgic types, too).

Jarno Trulli hopes that an updated power steering system planned for the Hungarian Grand Prix can help rescue his season with Team Lotus. The Italian has struggled all year to get comfortable with his feeling in the car, and an ongoing lack of confidence in the power steering design has left Trulli unable to push it to its limits. The Hingham-based outfit has made several modifications to the system to try and help Trulli but, having failed to overcome all his problems, another new version will be tried out at Budapest

Jamie Whincup extended his championship lead in V8 Supercars by coming through from eighth on the grid to head a Triple Eight Holden one-two in the second Townsville street race. A hard-charging first stint brought Whincup into contention at the front, and he then saved a set of soft tyres for the final part of the race, allowing him to pass Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom for second and then catch and pass his race-leading Triple Eight team-mate Craig Lowndes 18 laps from the end.

Though he won a race in his two NVIDIA Cup starts last week, it was a second place finish in a high sof race that put Jan Coomans on top of his peers in the weekly standings. Coomans, a driver from the Benelux sim racing club, came into the second week of racing in the runner-up spot in the standings but will cross the halfway mark in this short campaign as the point leader. Coomans’ second place run came in a 2972 sof race which Laszlo Kotrocz led flag-to-flag. Coomans was a distant second, seven seconds behind the winner of the July 11th event. Omar Soto, Madison Down and Week One victor Kaique Piropo completed the top five. Kotrocz went on to start six more races, winning in five of [...]
